Safety Coordinator
Associated Milk Producers Inc. (AMPI), a leading Midwest dairy cooperative, is looking for a Safety Coordinator at our Sanborn, IA facility. This position reports to the HR/Office Manager.
 
Summary: Responsible for developing, directing and communicating corporate/site wide safety initiatives. The site safety coordinator will manage the safety activities necessary for operation in compliance with government regulations, and adherence to Company policies and standards, in order to maintain a safe environment; reducing injuries and achieving site safety goals.
 
Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Primary contact for all safety issues for the site, including internal and external audits.
  • Continuous development and implementation of a comprehensive site safety program, including regular planned inspections and training to ensure compliance with all applicable programs and company policies. Promote Safety Excellence.
  • Manages and promotes behavioral based safety programs for employees, ensuring training is completed.
  • Manages applicable regulatory agency and insurance inspections as required.
  • Oversees and records a thorough and effective incident investigation and reporting procedure.
  • Lead the Emergency Response team in continuous training and drills to ensure support during times of emergency. Provides direction and expertise during emergencies.
  • Lead Worker’s Compensation investigations and administration to completion.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement of safety systems; apply working knowledge of safety programs to site.
  • Organize, lead and record keep all safety training.
  • Maintain DOT driver files, training, testing, licensing, motor vehicle records, and reporting.
  • Perform environmental on site testing.
  • Complete timely and accurate environmental reports.
  • Administer Company’s security door software program, including programing doors externally.
  • Maintain Company’s certificates of insurance for contractors.
  • Ensure proper contractor training prior to work being started at the site.
  • Hours primarily M-F; however, nights and weekends may be necessary due to the plant operating 24/7 for production safety needs.
  • Confidentiality is imperative in this role.
Qualifications, education and work experience:
  • High School diploma required.
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of safety experience preferably in a food or manufacturing facility.
  • OSHA 30 Hour Certificate preferred.
  • First Responder/Basic Life Support training preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office experience required with strong Excel experience required.
  • Obtain Underground Storage Tank Class B operator license within 6 months of hire.
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to interface with all levels within the organization.
  • Satisfactory pre-employment physical, drug screen, background and reference checks required.
